Buck, The Bulcky Flanker.

    Hi.

    - The Whining

    I am all in for defending your thoughts without being toxic, I'm a defender for it on the brazilian community, I would say, but I MUST state here that I am STRONGLY struggling to maintain my sanity as I fight for this champion, one of my favorite to play. Actually, lvl 79 with the champion, 1006 matches, that's 214h 52m played with him. Yes. I like Buck.

    As changelog tells us (https://paladins.gamepedia.com/Buck), he has been nerfed over and over, taking his last shot on July 18, 2018. I am very sure that we are all awered that ONE BULLET doesn't fix what has been made to Buck, right?! I am pretty sure that we all can confirm this, right?! Actually, allow me to go further on this: that felt very lame (couldn't find any other proper word for it).

    Buck, a flanker, is larger then most tanks (and I like him been like this, if he has support on his kit for it), has a weapon that shots VERY slow, with a large spread that can only be used properly on close range. His escape/engage hability has a LONG cooldown that even champions from damage class have better escapes then him, as flanker! (I had to hold myself on this one... took a deep breath.)

    He desperately need attention, and not only now! Not only because I wrote it here! He's been in need FOR AGES! he isn't a decent pick on competitive scenario FOR AGES!! I just don't get it!

    Some champions felt like untouchable, and you begun changing it now, touching Cassie and Lian. You can be sure that most of the community felt like we wouldn't live longer to see it happening, but we are glad we did it. It may sound hard for you to read it, but that's true, we felt like this.

    I would like to mention Pip here, The Better Buck. Most of what Buck does, Pip does better, and excels on it, mostly. Should it be like this? Is is designed to be like this? The healer excels over the flanker, buddies.

    I must be true and say that I am writing it here, but I've tried to give voice for Buck in every channel you have (FOR NO ONE PLAYS HIM, SO NO ONE CARES FOR TGIS CHAMPION), being JayFlare the guy on AoC I've made myself listened most on his videos from AoC Meetings. I pretty sure he may remember me like "that Buck guy again"... Unfortunately. I must say that I started it much like ok, but hope is fading, as days goes by and Hi-Rez tells us "Buck is OK to us", as we see patches after patches coming and nothing been touched on him for this to change.

    - What To Do Then?

    Pointing issues is useless if we don't suggest any changes, so I felt like I should.

    I feel like no one cares about it and, truth be told, and I don't feel like the person who need to read this will ever read it, but I am leaving it here, as a log, for no one to say that I did nothing to help Buck.

    Weapon: working it's Accuracy and Fire Rate would do something to it, maybe Fire Rate at 0,9 or 0,8 should do. Also, a staggering effect, like Willo's weapon seems suitable on a shotgun.

    Recovery: has a too long animation. Pip has an INSTANT and better healing, been possible to heal even allies when needed/wanted.

    Net Shot: Pip can do the same, but on AoE. Since Buck can do this the only one champion, should a silence effect be a thing in it? A opponent having his movement skill null under the Net Shot effect seems reasonable.

    Bounce House: add back the second charge on it.

    Ultimate (Buck Wild): actually, when you ult, feels like a death sentence to yourself. Due to his kit, I do not ult that often for it feels like I am dead. Adding some DR and/or Speed on his ult may be interesting.

    Loadouts: suggestions?! Maybe extending DR durations, since he's a bulcky champion? Idk

    Those are only suggestions. Some of them may or may not be reasonable, make him overpowered, what I do not want! I want him to be balanced, playable on competitive scenarios again, not only for fun, in casuals.

    I am OK with him been a large guy, actually I like it, but, if we state it, be must sustain himself properly. Recovery does NOTHING on late game, extending his DR times, all to 4s, and working on his recovery animation should do.

    This is a starting point, I hope, nothing more. Something has to be made.

    Feel free to add your thoughts, if you want to.

    I feel like I may not ask for any excuses for anything I said here if I got a little salty on any point, for I've been on this journey forever, and NEVER got anything for him but... one bullet.

    ONE BULLET DOES NOT FIX WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO BUCK! I'm pretty sure you know it.

    Stop pretending Buck is OK. The Better Meta website is here to prove he is not.

  • @MegaEdu13 yeah he was nerfed hard but with good reason, though I wouldn't say the extra round they gave him was useless. I'm not a Buck main though I've played him enough to confirm his ult is by far the biggest problem he has now, the moment you use it the entire enemy team focuses you so maybe adding a 20% DR or some lifesteal to it might help him out

    Finally someone who likes this champion.
    First of all , I agree with everything you said, the suggestions are great. (Maybe too much DR)
    But I also want to say a few words about "OLD BUCK", the one with low damage but incredibly high sustain!
    I don't know you but personally, I loved the old buck, and I'd love to play him again.
    As we all know, flankers rn are in a bad spot, most of them have trash mobility (and sometimes sustain) which is always compensated with stupid high BURST.
    This dumb concept has turned the entire flank class into CLOSS RANGE DAMAGE DEALERS.
    And if this problem won't fixed as soon as possible we will end up having 3 classes instead of 4.
    Before mobility nerfs flankers had much more mobility and less easy dps.
    They were high risk high reward classes that needed good aim and gamesense to be effective...
    They were the flankers that we all want to comeback! Agile assassins with consistent close/medium range damage.
    But old buck was different.
    He had even lower dps but incredibly high mobility and sustain! 2800 HP, passive healing (recovery), 1 JUMP (2 with bounce house) with really short cooldown but lower damage (the fire rate was slightly faster) that however could be increased with ensnare and ultimate.
    In ob61 he was reworked and turned into the current buck. But ffs , why can old andro and lex be played again with talents and not BUCK, EVIE and TORVALD?
    I really want a talent that allows the player to play old buck again. Sure , it would change the entire kit, but it would be an awesome experience!
    But even if that's not going to happen , buck still needs buffs, 1 extra ammo doesn't change anything

    Exactly. A death sentence.

    Usually, I save his ult only to help the team to finish the middle tank when there is no other enemy on the field. Not much other uses for it, when you play against experienced players.



  • The one bullet made him playable again at least. What is great since he is the only flank I can play.

    The ult is only useful in a one on one situation or to add some additional damage from safe distance. For an ult that is meant to have game changing qualities this is a bit measly.

    @Driggydrug The "Old Buck" was the least played champion of all times though. One could play 20 matches back then without seeing a Buck. That was the reason after all why they reworked him.

    I like to play bulcky characters, tanks, and Buck. That's my personal liking. Also, his personality is so cool to me. I just love it.

    Although, he isn't a viable character at the moment, as he's been killed long ago and so he still, THEN, if no one plays him, Hi-Rez has it's excuses to do nothing about him. But that is a circle as it is! How could anyone care if this for a champion that no one plays for its not viable?! See the circle?! So...(!?) one less playable champion to choose on the grid!

    Damn! This is so frustrating, man! Can't express enough it to you!!

    Wanna know what? The silence about it kills me. Actually I'm not that interested on playing the game anymore, to be honest.

    Note that I am not talking about bugs or anything related, what should give them problem to locate and solve. It's just about balancing a champion on the trash can. One that they put there and spit on it.

    Very sad about somethings, tho. I've tried to reach them on a multitude of ways several times, and had no answer.

    That's just how I ever felt flankers should be: able to go in and out, but not able to solo a tank. They must be able to fight and run. Maybe Buck able to stand a fight, but not how it is now.

    Again, I like him being a large guy, I am a tank main, but it's proven that he isn't doing well as they set the game now. Not the actual Buck. They pretend he is, tho.

  • @Driggydrug I prefer Buck a lot of times more than Maeve and I say Buck is waaay too underrated compared to Maeve, when it comes to fanbase and not meta.

    Buck has problems for so long, and I see nothing but memes to speak for him. I could see Maeve been defended, tho. Many times.

  • @M3RC3N4RI0 remember that the ult doesn't even consume ammo so it isn't that bad 😛
    However I still dislike buck's new ult, it's rushed and they could have reworked
    it better.
    If you played the game before ob54 you would have noticed how popular was buck with bounce house (2 jumps talent), not only in casual, even in esports.
    When hirez decided to **** the entire flank concept, by adding too much damage and keep nerfing mobility, buck stopped being playable and fun.
    So to put him in line with the bursty flankers he was reworked in ob61 ... but guess what?? He's still unpopular , weak and very rare in casual (even more in ranked).
    I know that many players would like to play old buck again, please hirez 😞
