Barik Ult Recommendation
Can Barik also get the change that Grohk, Ruckus, and Vivian got to their ultimates in the PTS where when they don't consume their ult until the channel ends? It's really irritating when you're ulting you get bursted and die, and the ult gets consumed without it ever even being up.
Tips to improve at playing frontline
This guide was inspired by @TheDarkSpirit12041, and his similarly natured guide for supports. More aimed at beginner-intermediate tank players.
Now what exactly is a front line champion?
A front line champion is generally a champion with high sustain between their high maximum health and tools built into their kit, simply enough. Generally, their style of play is either focused on capturing objectives or pushing further into the enemy team, depending on the tank and what the situation calls for Though front lines also have some ability to help teammates secure kills, like for example Ash has a load of knockback in her kit that can help teammates secure kills, but also can knock enemies off of maps.
Main Goal of front lines: Making sure the objective is getting captured, and the payload is pushing depending on phase. If it isn't, the goal is to try to get the enemy team away from it so you can.
The goal of a front line ISN'T just to sit on payloads and objectives.
While this may make sense to a newer player or somebody who doesn't play a lot of the front line role that you should just always sit on cap right? That's W-R-O-N-G. That is what results in a lot of new tank players getting absolutely slaughtered on it. Instead, you try the hardest you can WITHIN reason to keep capping/pushing when playing point tank (or to make sure your healer can, whenever they'll be safe doing it). When playing off-tank, you should even do this when your point tank can't on their own, but if they can hold their own, you zone (in other words, make sure the enemy cannot reach the objective/payload).
Your support can only heal you when you let them.
This is a SERIOUS mistake I see A LOT of tanks make even as high as Platinum and Diamond. They go sit on the point, and then when their health is low, instead of positioning themselves to allow their support to heal them, they spam VHS. The best philosophy to take is that you should try playing more around your support. When you're low (or even when you aren't and you need your healer's healing), try to reposition yourself behind a shield or cover so your support can target you with a heal. If you can't do that, the best thing to do then is to try to avoid as much damage as you possibly can while applying as much pressure as you possibly can.
Make Sure to buy Cauterize (Unless playing Terminus).
Now that Rejuvenate is weaker, you don't really need it anymore on most tanks, though getting it on Inara or maybe Terminus can be a good idea, for the rest it's better to go for Resilience/Master Riding now. But always getting Cauterize is important so your healers' healing has more impact. However, there are exceptions to that, primarily Terminus because he can't apply Caut all that well.
YOU ARE NOT A BULLET SPONGE!
I would think this should be common sense too, but it isn't. Most ideas involving dying are normally NOT the best thing you can do in a situation. You can normally back up and find cover just fine. This sort of combines the first and second tips, but I do mean something different by this. Tanks aren't here just to suffer. They are here to absorb as much damage as they can for as long as they can, regardless of the size of their health pool. That doesn't mean to just take damage, but to be as smart as you can about what damage you DO take. In other words, it's really about making sure you don't die, but also that you soak damage for the backline and also make sure points are being captured. Sound complicated? It should to a newer player, tanks are a lot more difficult to play than they might seem initially.
Know which tanks are better at off and point.
I can't stress enough that RUCKUS CANNOT POINT. Neither can Atlas, or Khan (well, he maybe can with the right build and a good player), Torvald, or Raum (when he comes out) in most circumstances (though every other tank can even Ash with the right build). I also cannot stress that Inara CANNOT OFF, though every other tank actually can, even Barik (to an extent, though it's far better if he's played on point). It's also good to know this not only for yourself, but to also understand which of their tanks will do what. You see an Ash, Khan front? Ash will actually point in this case most times, but here's a more obvious example. You see a Barik, Makoa front? Barik will point. Another one. Inara, Khan front? Inara will point. You get the idea. You'll learn after a while how that will work with every combination thrown at you. But this is most important for picking for obvious reasons.
I could probably add more to this, but it's already quite the wall of text. Hopefully it helps anyone trying to learn how to tank.
RE: Raum the unkillable
Trust me, he's far from difficult to kill... With the right champions on the enemy team, he actually ends up with massive PROBLEMS in the department of sustain...
The champions you ask? Tyra? Skye? Bomb King? Drogoz? Seris? Khan? I could legit go on, but the point is, there's a LOT of champions that counter him. Literally being a good Raum at this point is a combination of being good at tanks and knowing how to deal with his counters.
RE: March Rage Thread
I came back for try out some custom games. Strix and Kinessa can't move their weapons when they are scoping.
Check your scope sensitivity. It's probably negative. You can fix that by just setting the value to whatever your preferred value is from pre-patch.
RE: May Rage Thread
Decimation Term is close to broken.
It pretty much is in its current state. Biggest issue IMO is the heal being stupid especially in combination with how stupid Necromantic Might is. Both of them definitely need a decrease in scaling.
This AoC is really beginning to disappoint me. Barely anybody suggests much of anything, and the people that do seem to suggest bad ideas. Couch actually suggested good stuff and Hi-Rez was like "but no?" And then Z1 suggests NERFING A CHARACTER THAT BARELY ANYONE PLAYS and They're like "yeah GREAT IDEA!" Oh and Strix nerfs were suggested and they came up with a BS excuse about the "sniper fantasy." I'm sure that doesn't involve killing most flanks no matter what in a 1v1. Snipers SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO THAT. (L1BRA brought that up, point for her on this one).
It's almost like this time around there's a MASSIVE disconnect between the AoC and the community. What I've heard from there doesn't line up with ANYTHING I've heard anyone else request. Z1 is proving himself VERY guilty of this, yet the community seems to back him no matter what. Heck if he suggested a Seris nerf I bet the community would have his back at this point.
RE: Favourite Ultimate Voicelines
"Death Awaits you all!"
@KicsitCsicska If only his base voice weren't so cringy… Though on the Swashbuckler skin, I'll agree it's bad@$$.
RE: Best and Worst Things Next Patch?
Next patch really looks like a bad one, but I'll put my thoughts here anyways.
- Sha'Lin buffs, oh goodness the Sha'Lin buffs. He feels A LOT better. Never realized such small things could help so much. I actually ENJOY playing Sha again, and HE ACTUALLY FEELS GOOD! Gets good damage quite reliably. Rapid Shot still feels bad for most uses aside from securing kills and shield pressure, though.
- Ash damage buffs. That damage buff isn't just 40 extra damage. It adds that extra ~11% damage to the splash also. She's a second option to Nando, but it seems like her point builds will be better IMHO.
- Inara un-nerfs. Her damage output is actually quite decent now. I'm not ready for Treacherous Ground being meta, though. Yuck.
- Over-buffed Damba. He didn't even need a buff in the first place. His winrates are EXTREMELY deceptive.
- A lot of badly executed nerfs. Barik's do nothing, Torvald's do EVERYTHING, Skye's do nothing, Koga's do EVERYTHING, BK's do NOTHING AT ALL... I could go on. Suffice it to say, this covers a LOT of the change log.
- Grohk NERF. Yes you heard it here. IT'S A NERF, and a lot of people agree, including Kami (Vex doesn't but his opinion on it makes zero sense). Would take a bit to explain how, but that is what it is. Just going to say you'll realize that only when you play it or see it played.
- Maeve is unchanged. She's the new Koga just going to say it now.
- ATLAS DIDN'T GET ANYTHING. Just... WHAT? He may just be the worst champion in the GAME now.
- Makoa's changes still feel like a nerf to me in the end. Will make him a worse OT, which even if it puts him in the running for a point now, I mean just that. IN. THE. RUNNING. It's still a lot worse than other options. Not going to compete with Barik/Inara/Term for sure.
- WE DON'T NEED LESS VIABLE OFF TANKS. Now, I'm serious on this one, WE ONLY HAVE 1 GOOD OFF-TANK. Ash is more than serviceable yes, but she's not GOOD as an OT.
RE: August Rage Thread
The Steam Forums for this game aren;t worth the headaches or anyone's time. Most of the people there are whiny crybabies that complain about things that funny enough aren't even issues most of the time. They just whine to whine.
that's most steam forums, no?
I suppose so. Though I still must say the Reddit is ten times worse. They seem to go back and forth between shilling for and attacking Hi-Rez and Evil Mojo, but in general they're so dedicated to whichever mood they're in they'll call you a troll and make personal attacks when you voice a different opinion. Also, they'll downvote the f*** out of posts you make they don't like.
RE: September Rage Thread
Sometimes I see new balance threads, read them and wonder if we are playing the same game
Yeah I see "buff Cassie" threads and I'm like... what the f***? Her DPS and burst are both INSANE, and all of her talents are good. Even on CONSOLE where she's at a serious disadvantage she's not even that bad... On PC she's literally the second best champion in the game...
EDIT: So I just had a game with a Power Cosmeum solo support Jenos and an absurdly toxic Zhin that would just sit there and type out threats to the admittedly $#!+headed Jenos instead of playing the f***ing game. Why does this keep happening to me this split? UGH... It was essentially a 3v5 after about halfway... There was also an Ash that for some reason ran a point build when I was already playing Inara, and it didn't even have the Siege Engine card... But at least they tried, unlike those two so I can let that slide.
RE: Complain about your Lives Here
F***ing yay, we've needed this thread for a long time.
Anyways, My partner's (Yeah I'm being unspecific I know, but that's because I don't really think of this place as a place to talk about my IRL life) brother is loud and obnoxious. Seriously, he's loud enough to go over Paladins sometimes, and his voice has to get through a door, and two sets of walls.
